Groundhogg 4.8 introduces support for the WordPress Abilities API, letting AI agents and MCP (Model Context Protocol) clients — like Claude, ChatGPT, or a custom assistant your team builds — act on your CRM through a supported, permission-checked interface. Instead of screen-scraping the admin or hand-rolling a one-off integration, an agent calls the same well-defined actions Groundhogg already uses internally.

Note: the Abilities API registers what an agent can do, but you’ll also need an MCP server plugin to actually expose those abilities to an AI agent over MCP — we recommend WordPress’s official MCP Adapter.

Here’s why AI agent support is a standout feature:

  • Contacts, on command: An agent can find, create, and update contacts, search your database, read and add notes, and list tags, owners, custom fields, and saved searches — all through a plain-language request instead of a support ticket.
  • Email and broadcasts, hands-free: List your saved emails and sender profiles, send a saved or one-off email to specific contacts, and schedule a broadcast to a whole segment — then read back its open and click report, all in the same conversation.
  • Flows without opening the flow builder: List your flows and add a single contact or an entire segment to one, so an agent can kick off the right automation on your behalf.
  • The same permissions, every time: Every ability runs through the same capability and per-object permission checks as the rest of Groundhogg, so an agent can only ever do what its user is already allowed to do — nothing more.

This is an early release and an active work in progress — more abilities, including SMS, are on the way. If you’re building or using AI agents and want your CRM to be somewhere they can safely act, Groundhogg 4.8 is ready for them today.
